Village Chotěšov is situated on the River Radbuza in the lowland, about 18 km southwest from Pilsen. Together with contiguous villages Mantov, Losina, Týnec and Hoříkovice it covers an area of about 2 681 hectares and it´s population is 2 592 peoples (1.1.2005). The first written mention of the village was in 1115. It became important after the foundation of the Convent in 1202. The further development came after the opening of the coal exploitation and setting up the railway in 1861.
The village has it´s own sign, the blue-gold divided plate, on the upper part there is a silver eight-pointed star on the blue background. On the lower part there are three pairs (2+1) of black stag antlers on the gold background.
The Convent founded by Hroznata in 1202 – 1210, the parish church of the Birth of Our Lady from 1366, the marian column from 1687, the column with the statue of St. John of Nepomuk from 1700 and the plague columns belong among important sights
F. X. Margold (1887 – 1967), master builder and painter and Václav Hataj (1888 – 1954), teacher and chronicler were reputable personalities of the village. More about monastery...
In the village there is an elementary school (1. – 9. class), sporting hall, kindergarden, culture center, cinema, post office, centre of health, old people's home. Flat construction is being expanded successfuly. On the border of the village there is a sporting airport for ultra-light planes.
The village is situated on the state road No. I/26 Pilsen-Domažlice-frontier passage Folmava-Furth im Wald. The highway D5 Praha-Plzeň-Rozvadov goes 6 km faraway from the village. The railway line Plzeň-Domažlice-Česká Kubice-Furth im Wald goes through the village.
The largest industry enterprise in the village is MD Elmont ltd. for production of cable bunches. It employs in about thousand employees. Another important enterprise is GERWAH ltd. producing spare parts for automobile industry. Here you can also find privat agriculture cooperative, hotel VAKOR and several privat firms for building, productive, artisan´s and business working.
The most important property is the district of the Convent that covers an area of 68 644 m2. The village owns 36 903 m2 and 31 417 m2 is owned by the Episcopacy of Pilsen. Control of the whole object is executed by the village Chotěšov, with the help of the Civic Organisation “Klášter Chotěšov”. Repairs and saving of the Convent are realised according to the project of Ing. arch. Soukup, which was approved by the board of representatives of the village on 28th August 1996. In the area of the Convent, the village with the Civic Organisation created a little museum of the history of the village and Convent. In tourist season is cloister openly any Sunday afternoon. Out of Sunday and off-season it is possible examination conclude on telephone number 377 900 421.
